Harleston Village Restoration

This 1880s Charleston single house, complete with a rear carriage house, represents the character and craftsmanship of downtown Charleston architecture. The renovation required a careful balance of preservation, modernization, and coordination within the requirements of the Board of Architectural Review.

The year-long restoration brought new life to the property while protecting its historic identity. Reclaimed shiplap and beadboard were paired with updated materials to preserve the home’s nostalgic feel, while the interiors were reworked for greater comfort, function, and everyday livability.

The carriage house renovation added a bedroom and bathroom, expanding the flexibility of the property, while a ductless HVAC system was introduced to improve performance and reduce concerns associated with mechanical systems in a flood-prone crawl space.

The result is a thoughtful reimagining of a historic downtown residence — one that preserves the charm of old Charleston while bringing the home forward for modern living.
